Anita Henrichson, MBS, LPC - Supervisor, LPC,

Anita Henrichson is a Licensed Professional Counselor who counsels children, teens, and adults. Concurrently since completing her Master’s in Behavioral Sciene degree in 1997 and receiving her LPC license in 1999, she has had a wide spectrum of professional experience in children’s play therapy, individual and group therapy, mental health evaluations, home study evaluations, marriage and family counseling, and experience as an expert witness for the judicial system. Anita takes a Person -Centered Approach within her therapy sessions while she specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy blended with Solution Focused Therapy and Client Education.

“Since emotions, thoughts, and behaviors all influence each other as well as our personalities and past experiences, I find these specific approaches and techniques extremely beneficial within the counseling experience,” Anita stated.

After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree from Phillips University, Anita taught first and second grades in the public school system for five years. Then, she obtained her Master of Behavioral Science degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University while counseling under supervision for a number of years. Afterwards, she opened a successful, private practice in Oklahoma from 1999 until she moved to Texas in 2012.

Anita is a wife and a mother who values her family.

"Life is a journey. Some of my journey has been smooth while other parts have been a rocky road. I am a breast cancer survivor, a survivor of an emotionally, abusive marriage which ended in divorce over 24 years ago, lost my father to Parkinson's disease, raised three children as a single mother for 12 years, and am currently a wife, a step-mother to four, and a grandmother to two boys. The Lord has blessed me throughout my entire life, and he has carried me through difficult times."

Learning Out Loud, Tools for Living, LLC, has been established by Anita Henrichson, LPC, and her colleague, Dottie Claggett, LPC. This is an educational center teaching children, adults, and teens coping skills, social-emotional skills, and life-lesson skills. Each class is a small group divided by age, topics, and issues. The interactive classes promote social-emotional learning which is the process of acquiring knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, achieve goals, feel empathy, maintain relationships and make responsible decisions.

“As a Counselor, I assess, counsel, and help guide through educating my clients with anxiety, depression, PTSD, divorce issues, fear, low self-esteem, poor social skills, aging, relationships, and cognitive functioning deficits such as learning differences, attention difficulties (ADD/ADHD), concussion, traumatic brain injury (TBI), cerebrovascular accident/infarct, and degenerative diseases (dementia)”.

April’s goal is to offer a supportive environment for her clients. She promotes coping skills, and emotional self-management skills, which enables her clients to cope with learning differences, life changes caused by difficulties in thinking (cognitive deficits), and emotional instability.

EXPERIENCE

Before moving to Texas, April was originally trained as a New York State School Psychologist with experience in the public school system. During her time as a school psychologist, April counseled many children helping them to deal with school issues, bullying, social skills, coping techniques, family conflicts, learning difficulties, behavioral problems, and emotional issues. She has a great love for counseling children and teens. Because she has an additional undergraduate degree in Art, April incorporates art within children’s therapy, play therapy, and adolescent therapy.

Returning to Texas, April initially worked with brain injuries as a Psychometrist (neuropsychological assessment) and Cognitive Rehabilitation Coordinator. In 2019 she obtained certification as a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS). In addition, she has years of experience working in psychiatric hospitals. Knowing the importance of healthy thinking, she uses Cognitive Therapy within her counseling sessions. “Changing one’s way of thinking can remodel a mind.”
